Indian Act and the Consequence(s) Past and Present

The Indian Act was created by in 1876 unilaterally on our people by the Federal Government. This archaic legislation still has it s tyranical impacts that currently affect our people today it created social, cultural, political fragmentation and an adoption of a system that created a class structure of subservience to the colonizers and their laws. It diminished the roles of women, elders and the communal aspects of a harmonious society that influenced the balance of relationships between the groups involved.

How did this happen? When the treaties of our country were built on a nation-nation relationship with the Crown. Treaties are visionary documents meaning to create a 'foundation of self-sustainability and determination' for those yet to come. Therefore, the laws that affect our people including the Indian Act should not apply. It works agains't the ideal of 'autonomous relation's' with the Crown. More to come on this post! To discuss the agenda of divide and conquers tactics also the social and political conditioning of our people and the affects of the future.
